College level (CL) courses:  For those looking for a higher level of photography training, I offer 8-week courses that are based on my college-level classes.  These include in-depth instruction for those wanting more challenging programming - serious hobbyists, those needing photographic skills for work, or who are are planning a career in photography.

onedaydslrCL_Photography Skills - Level 1... 8 weeks, starts Tuesday, April 21, 2020
 

Photography Skills - Level 1, 8 weeks .  7 to 10 pm
Tuesdays, April 21 to June 2, 2020 , includes a daytime (weekend) field trip, date TBA.

 

Location: 198 St. David St., Fergus                            Ages 16+

Suitable for:  dedicated amateur or hobbyist photographers, anyone who requires photographic skills for their profession, or for those looking to begin a career in photography.

This introductory level 8-week course will give you confidence with your camera to be able to shoot in any situation, and is the first step in gaining photography skills that can take you beyond the hobbyist or amateur level.  We'll cover everything from lenses to exposure settings, as well as lighting, file formats,  focus and much more.  Suitable for those with no experience.  You must have either a DSLR or advanced mirrorless camera.  Class size is limited to 10 participants.

studiophotCL_Photography Skills - Level 2... 8 weeks, starts Thursday, April 16, 2020
 

Photography Skills - Level 2, 8 weeks .  7 to 10 pm 
Thursdays, April 16 to June 4, 2020
, includes a daytime (weekend) field trip, date TBA.
Note: No class Jan. 30/20

Location: 198 St. David St., Fergus                           Ages 16+

 Suitable for:  dedicated amateur or hobbyist photographers, anyone who requires photographic skills for their profession, or for those looking to begin a career in photography, who already have an understanding of camera settings and concepts.

This 8-week program takes you beyond the skills learned in Level 1, and will expand on your knowledge of advanced metering & exposures,  lighting, composition, and more.  We'll work with off-camera flash, and explore the more creative aspects of photography.  Suitable for those who have basic camera skills.  It is highly recommended that you take Level 1 first.   Class size is limited to 10 participants.

photoshop2CL_Photoshop - Level 1  - 8 weeks, starts Monday, April 20, 2020
 

Photoshop - Level 1, 8 weeks .  7 to 10 pm 
Mondays, April 20 to June 15, 2020

Location: 198 St. David St., Fergus                           Ages 16+
 

This 8-week course is designed for photographers who are serious about learning the features of Photoshop CC to edit and enhance their images.  This course covers a broad range of topics, including image sizing for various outputs, workflow, colour corrections, black & white processes, retouching, selections, layers, printing and more.  Each night will allow hands-on practice time in addition to learning new material. Students are required to bring a laptop or computer with  a recent version of Adobe Photoshop (Adobe Photoshop CC, or CS6) Mac or PC ( 2 are available for in-class use... let me know if you need one)  A computer mouse is beneficial.  Class size is limited to 10 participants.

General Interest Photography Courses

General interest (GI) courses: Designed for hobbyists, or those who prefer to study single topics, rather than register for a series of classes.  Many of these feature field trips and hands-on practice in studio, and are suitable for a variety of skill levels.


The Art of Black & White Photography - Fergus

Long considered a true art form, black & white photography presents its own unique challenges. This full day workshop will take you beyond simply flipping your image to greyscale...we'll look at choosing your subject, working with dramatic lighting (natural and artificial), dynamic range, assessing brightness levels, and much more. This workshop includes practical experience in the studio - we'll be photographing still lifes and portraits, so bring your camera.  We will also look at editing files, and examine the different options for converting files to black & white....bring a laptop (one is available for loan) for editing your files.

GI_Designs in Nature - Photography Field Trip - Sun. May 3, 2020 - Fergus

Location: 198 St. David St. N, & Confederation Park, Fergus

Ages: 16+, or 13+ with an adult.

Nature is the most amazing artist if we take the time to look closely, we discover complex designs and colour combinations, shifting shapes, or movement in the landscape. This class is perfect for the photographer looking for inspiration and fresh ideas. Well look at new ways to photograph abstract patterns, and create impressionist effects. Through a short lecture, well study compositional techniques and camera settings, then well head outside for a field trip to practice. The class finishes with a (gentle!) critique of your photographs. Bring a tripod if possible, and dress for the weather.this is a rain or shine class, wet weather can work wonders on the landscape. Suitable for all skill levels with tips for both beginner and advanced photographers. Ages 16+, or younger if accompanied by an adult.

The Fergus & Elora areas are especially rich in natural features that are ideal for this workshop. For those coming from out of town, there are many "bed & breakfasts" and small inns to make your weekend even better. The Township of Centre Wellington website offers lots of information for your stay.

Class size is limited to 12 participants - please register early to avoid disappointment.

Private Photography & Photoshop Lessons - All ages

Don't have time for a scheduled class?  Have you bought a new camera and are looking for some tips to get you started?  Need some help with Photoshop or Lightroom?  Or is there a specific topic you're interested in...studio lighting, flash photography, portraits, or wedding photography?  If you don't see a workshop that suits your schedule or individual needs, consider taking a series of private lessons.  These can be scheduled during weekdays, evenings or weekends as time allows, and can be purchased as single 1 hour lessons, or you can purchase a block or 5 or 10 hours, to be used in sections that suit your schedule.  

       1 hour lesson        $75 +hst
       5 hour package    $350 +hst
       10 hour package  $650 +hst
