Photography has a long history as an art form, but is often misunderstood when considering its place in the greater world of art. How does it fit in when considered with painting or sculpture or other media? How do we know when a photograph is simply a snapshot, or something more compelling?
In this interactive course, we’ll look at the evolution of photography through different genres, and learn how to evaluate our own images in terms of artistic merit rather than as a purely technical endeavour. Other topics will include photography’s place in the art world, how to develop a connected series of images, and how to identify trends or styles that influence how we both perceive and create our work.
Taught live via Zoom – students will be able to ask questions throughout the program, and are encouraged to share one or two of their own photographs for discussion. Access to the class recording will be available for one month afterwards.
Fee: $75.00 + HST.
