New Exhibition In The Smokestack Gallery (Hamilton) In May And June
After delays due to postponed residencies and travel restrictions, I’m so happy to finally see this new body of work come to life on the walls of Smokestack Gallery in Hamilton this spring.
What: What Time is This Place?
When: May 16 – June 27, 2024
Where: The Smokestack Gallery (Hamilton, ON)
From their website:
What Time is This Place? A solo-exhibition of photographs by Sylvia Galbraith.
Using camera obscura and pinhole techniques in historic outport buildings, Galbraith’s projections interweave the contemporary state of built environments with exterior views of the surrounding coastal landscapes that have remained constant. Drawing the title from a book of the same name by Kevin Lynch, What Time is This Place? presents an examination of deep-rooted connections between people and their places of origin within the context of displacement, resettlement and renewal.
Smokestack Gallery is located in Hamilton, at The Cotton Factory on Sherman Street. Exhibition and opening reception details can be found here.
